The MF Fire Nova 2X in Charcoal wraps MF Fire's largest, cleanest-testing firebox in a warm gray powder coat with a matching door. Underneath: a 2.4 cu ft EPA-certified catalytic firebox that takes 22-inch splits, heats up to 2,500 sq ft, tested at 1.38 grams per hour on real cordwood, and ships with MF Fire's AirX timed air control as standard equipment.
Who the Nova 2X Is For
Homes that lean on wood as primary heat, open floor plans, and anyone who wants the longest burns and the biggest glass in the Nova line. The Charcoal finish reads softer than black against light walls and stone. If you're heating under about 1,500 sq ft, the Nova C in Charcoal is the better-sized choice.
Key Features
-
AirX comes standard – press once at reload and the timed air control automatically steps airflow down 35 minutes later, stretching burns and preserving coals. One button — no app, no programming
-
EPA 2020 certified at 1.38 g/hr on cordwood – certified in 2025 on real cordwood, the tougher test, at OMNI-Test Laboratories
-
78% HHV efficiency (84% LHV) – the EPA-verified figures from the certification test
-
Up to 17-hour no-match restart – rated to hold enough coals to relight a fresh load up to 17 hours later
-
2.4 cu ft firebox, 22 in logs – full-length splits and fewer reloads
-
243 sq in of glass – an 18 in x 13.5 in view that reads like a fireplace

Why Choose MF Fire
Founded in 2012 by two University of Maryland fire protection engineers and building in Baltimore, Maryland, MF Fire has won the Wood Stove Decathlon's Low Emissions Prize, the 2014 Wood Stove Design Workshop Grand Prize, and U.S. Department of Energy research grants. The Nova 2X is the flagship of that work: certified clean on cordwood, then self-managing its airflow with AirX.

What AirX Actually Does
Long burns usually die because the air stays open too long. AirX fixes that mechanically: press it once at reload, and 35 minutes later it steps the airflow down automatically — after the load has charred and the catalyst is lit off. MF Fire credits AirX with significantly longer burn times and better efficiency, and every Nova 2X ships with it. No Wi-Fi, no app, nothing to pair.
Heating Performance, Honestly
The 2,500 sq ft figure assumes decent insulation and an open layout; your insulation, ceilings, climate, draft and wood moisture all move it. What the stove reliably delivers is capacity and duration: 22-inch splits, a certified 1.38 g/hr cordwood burn, and the up-to-17-hour no-match restart. Feed it seasoned cordwood at 15–20% moisture and it does the rest.

Installation
You'll need a 6-inch chimney — UL 103 HT Class A from a single manufacturer or code-approved lined masonry — running 15 to 33 feet from the stove top, plus a UL 1618 floor pad matched to your base. The clearance table in MF Fire's Nova 2X owner's manual governs your configuration; the optional Reduced Clearance Kit brings the back wall down to 9 inches with double-wall pipe. Use an NFI-certified installer. Not approved for mobile homes.

Warranty & Support
MF Fire backs the Nova 2X with a Limited Lifetime warranty on the firebox and door-frame welds — "lifetime" is defined in the warranty as up to 7 years — with up to 5 years of covered labor on select components and shorter terms on wear parts (AirX and blower components carry 1 year). Paint, gaskets, glass and firebricks are excluded; coverage applies to the original owner at the registered address, so register with MF Fire after installation. OffGrid Horizon is a family-owned, authorized MF Fire dealer — (302) 496-3554.

Frequently Asked Questions
What's the difference between the Nova 2X and the older Nova 2?
Same firebox platform — the 2X is the current EPA-certified model, adds AirX as standard, and carries a 2025 cordwood certification at 1.38 g/hr.
How is the Charcoal finish different from Satin Black?
Same stove, same performance. Charcoal is a warm gray powder coat that reads softer than black — a good match for lighter rooms and stonework.
Does the firebox come with legs or a base?
Not by default — but you can add a 3, 6 or 9 inch leg kit right on this page with the Leg Kit selector above, and the price updates automatically. Prefer a different look? The Tower base with wood storage, the 48-inch Bench, and the insert surround are listed separately, and we're happy to match one for you at (302) 496-3554.
Is AirX an app or a smart-home device?
No — it's a self-contained timed air control. Press it at reload; 35 minutes later it steps the air down automatically. No Wi-Fi, no pairing.
Is this a catalytic stove?
Yes — the combustor re-burns smoke at low temperatures, enabling clean overnight burns. Engage it with the bypass handle once hot; inspect it seasonally like any maintained part.
What wood should I burn?
Seasoned cordwood at 15–20% moisture, per MF Fire — the fuel the stove was actually certified on.
What clearances and hearth do I need?
36 inches in front, a UL 1618 floor pad matched to your leg configuration, and the manual's clearance table for your setup. The Reduced Clearance Kit cuts the back wall to 9 inches with double-wall pipe.
Can I install it in a mobile home?
No. MF Fire does not approve the Nova 2X for mobile home installation.
Does it qualify for the federal wood stove tax credit?
No. The federal 25C biomass stove credit ended for installations after December 31, 2025; 2026 installs do not qualify.
What maintenance does it need?
Ash into a lidded steel container, glass cleaned cool with a non-ammonia cleaner, gaskets checked seasonally, combustor inspected, chimney inspected and swept regularly through the heating season.
The whole-home wood stove, in the finish that fits your room. Questions? We'll talk it through.
