Two thousand cigars is the point where storage stops being a humidor question and becomes an inventory question. Climate control

The case for a powered cabinet strengthens as the collection grows. A passive humidor cannot correct anything; it follows the room, and with 2,000 cigars inside, a slow seasonal drift reaches a lot of stock before you notice. Here, built-in cooling and heating systems work alongside electronic humidification to hold the interior at a set point you enter.

• Temperature 41°F–71°F. The customary target of about 65°F to 70°F sits in the upper part of that band, with plenty of range below it if something wants to be kept colder.
• Humidity 56%–78%. A 65% to 70% set point falls comfortably mid-range. Note the lower limit before you commit: nothing below 56% relative humidity is achievable, so this cabinet is for material that needs moisture, never for material that needs drying.
• Touchscreen digital control panel. Climate and humidity are adjusted directly on screen, so a precise change is easy to make and easy to repeat.
• De-mist feature. Condensation forms on the inner face of the glass whenever the interior is cooler and wetter than the room around it. It is ordinary physics rather than a fault, appearing most often in humid weather or shortly after the door has been open.
• Auxiliary fan. In a cabinet six feet tall, unmoved air separates into layers and the bottom shelf ends up wetter than the top. Circulating it means the sensor reading applies to the whole interior, and it prevents damp pockets where mould can start.

Capacity in the real world

The rating describes an ideal load: loose single cigars of average ring gauge, laid across all six shelves and the tray, dividers pushed to the sides. Switch to boxes and around half is realistic, less where the boxes are deep or unusually shaped, because a box brings its own empty air with it and boxes stack awkwardly against each other. The same applies to cabinet-selection sticks and heavy ring gauges. You have six drawer-style shelves on smooth metal slides, one a removable tray with two dividers, plus three adjustable dividers on every shelf. Those dividers do most of the organising, keeping a part-filled shelf in order instead of sliding about. Lift the tray out when a taller box needs headroom.

Build and finish

Dark cherry, with the depth of colour that suits a study or a lounge fitted out in older timber. Trays and shelves are cedar-lined, and the cedar is functional rather than cosmetic: it takes on moisture when the interior is damp and releases it when the air dries, steadying conditions between cycles of the humidification system. Cedar is also long credited with deterring tobacco beetle. The included Cachet jar case

Every time the cabinet door opens, the interior loses some of what it has been holding and the system has to make it back. A small case for the week's rotation is a practical way to keep the big door shut, and that is where the Cachet earns its keep. It holds four 3 oz glass jars with adjustable ventilated tops in a mahogany exterior with a wood interior.

The vents are the mechanism worth understanding. With the vent shut, a glass jar is sealed and its contents share air with nothing else, which is what you want for anything strongly scented, because aroma travels between anything breathing the same air and one assertive item will flavour everything near it. With the vent open, the jar breathes with the humidified air in the case, so its contents hold at the case's level rather than gradually drying inside a closed jar. Since each top adjusts on its own, one case runs four separate small climates at once.

The catch with any small container is that it has almost no reserve: three ounces of air gives up its moisture the moment the lid lifts. The clear polymer crystal humidifier is the answer, releasing moisture as the air inside dries and taking it back when humidity rises, smoothing the swings the way the cedar lining does on a larger scale. A magnetic back keeps it attached rather than loose among the contents. Internal locking hinges stop the lid travelling past its stop, and the case includes an accessory compartment and a lock and key set.

What follows is general practice for cedar-lined climate cabinets. The manufacturer's manual governs this unit and should be read before you begin.

• Season it first. Cedar arrives dry and will take moisture from anything placed against it. Season the interior using distilled water only, and expect several days before the readings settle.
• Never tap water. Dissolved minerals leave scale behind and eventually clog the humidification system. Use distilled or reverse-osmosis water in the reservoir, and the same in the jar case humidifier.
• Placement. Against an interior wall, out of direct sunlight, away from radiators, heating vents and A/C exhaust. Allow clearance so the cooling system can exhaust rather than draw its own warm air back in.
• Level footing. A six-foot door magnifies any tilt at the base into a gap at the top. Level the cabinet on both axes before loading, then check again once it is full and the floor has taken the weight.
• Power. It runs on 110/120V, and a 220/240V version is available upon request. Plan for a permanent outlet within reach of where it will stand.
• Load gradually. Run it empty at your chosen set point for a few days, confirm it is holding, then add stock in stages.

Delivery

Because of the size and weight this ships freight rather than parcel, arriving crated on a pallet by LTL carrier. Freight delivery is normally kerbside: the driver leaves it at the end of the driveway, and getting it inside is the buyer's arrangement. Height is the thing to plan around at 72 inches, so measure doorways, ceiling clearance at any turn and the swing on a stairwell beforehand, allowing for a crate larger again. Common questions

How is this different from the black oak version?

Only the finish. Both are the Remington Lite 6-Shelf at 25" × 24" × 72", rated to 2,000, with the same six shelves, the same 41°F–71°F and 56%–78% ranges and the same touchscreen control. Dark cherry is the traditional look, black oak the contemporary one. Choose on the room.

Does opening the door often cause problems?

Every opening exchanges some conditioned air, and the system then works to recover it. Occasional access is unremarkable. Constant access is why the included jar case is useful: keep the week's selection in it and the cabinet stays closed for longer stretches.

Can I get it in 220/240V?

The standard configuration is 110/120V, and a 220/240V version is available upon request. If you need it, raise it before ordering rather than after, since it is a build configuration rather than something changed on delivery.

Should I add my own hygrometer?

The cabinet has its own digital control and readout. Many collectors still keep a calibrated hygrometer on a shelf as a cross-check, which is sensible with any single-sensor system, since it reports conditions where the cigars actually sit.

Will it work in a garage or an unheated room?

It is intended for conditioned indoor space. Left in an unheated garage the system fights ambient temperature without pause, and severe cold or heat can carry the interior past the range it can bring back. Keep it within the heated part of the building.
