Product Description

The Antarctic is the largest of Dickinson's floor-mount diesel heaters, with a wider, taller body than the Alaska. It delivers 6,500 to 16,250 BTU of dry heat and can be ordered with a 1-turn or 2-turn hot water coil.

Key Features

  • 6,500–16,250 BTU output – adjustable from a low simmer to full heat (Dickinson rating)
  • Dry heat – exhaust and its moisture leave through the chimney, so the heat dries the cabin instead of adding condensation
  • Low fuel use – 1.29 gallons per 24 hours on low, 3.20 gallons on high
  • 304 stainless steel – laser-cut stainless body
  • 12V draft-assist fan included – helps start-up and keeps the draft steady; a 24V fan is available on request
  • Factory set for #2 diesel – valves for kerosene and #1 diesel are available
  • Hot water option – choose a 1-turn coil that heats 5–10 gallons or a 2-turn coil that heats 15–20 gallons using the selector above

All four heaters share the same burner output and fuel use. Pick the Newport to save floor space, the Alaska for the smallest floor footprint, the Antarctic for a larger heater with a 2-turn coil option, or the Lofoten if you want a small cooktop too.

Installation

Plan a 3 in chimney between 4 and 8 feet long — 6 feet straight up with no elbows works best — and a barometric damper for any run of 6 feet or more. The space needs a permanent fresh-air vent. On sailboats it should face fore or aft. For a port or starboard-facing install, the fuel valve can be mounted on the side so fuel keeps flowing at heel angles up to 15 degrees. Chimney parts and the fuel supply are sold separately and depend on your layout; Dickinson's diesel installation and operating manual is the authority for clearances, fuel feed height and chimney details. We recommend installation by a qualified marine technician.

Dickinson designs this heater for marine installation. If you plan to install it in a cabin, tiny home or other structure, confirm the requirements with your local code official and installer before you order.

Frequently Asked Questions

What do I need besides the heater?

A 3 in chimney kit with deck fitting, a fuel supply (Dickinson offers 12V fuel pumps, regulators, filters and stainless day tanks), a 12V supply for the draft fan, and a fresh-air vent. Call us at (302) 496-3554 and we'll help you put the parts list together.

What does the hot water coil do?

The coil plumbs into a hot water tank and heats water while the heater runs: the 1-turn water coil heats 5–10 gallons; the 2-turn water coil heats 15–20 gallons of water in a connected tank. Choose "No Water Coil" if you only need heat.

Can it run on kerosene?

It ships factory set for #2 diesel. Valves for kerosene and #1 diesel are available — call us before ordering so we can arrange the right valve.

Does it need a 24V fan?

It ships with a 12V draft-assist fan. If your system is 24V, call us right after ordering and we will request the 24V fan from Dickinson.

How much fuel will it burn?

Dickinson rates it at 1.29 gallons per 24 hours on low and 3.20 gallons on high. Actual use depends on how hard you run it and how cold it is.
