The SGK-8MAX is a complete off-grid power system for a cabin, workshop, barn, small home or a full-time RV that sits away from a utility connection. An 8000W 48V split-phase inverter supplies 120V and 240V at the same time, so ordinary outlets and lighting run alongside a well pump, a compressor or a 240V mini-split. Behind it sit 10.24kWh of LiFePO4 storage and a 5400W solar array. In practice that carries refrigeration, lighting, water pumping, laptops, a television and hand tools through the day with reserve left for the night.

What you're getting

  • 1 x 8000W 48Vdc 120/240Vac split-phase inverter — the heart of the system. It converts battery power to household AC and produces both legs, so you do not need a separate transformer for 240V loads. Up to 6 units can be paralleled later if the property grows.
  • 12 x 450 Watt monocrystalline solar panels (5400W array) — the generation side. These recharge the bank during daylight and carry your daytime loads directly.
  • 4 x 200Ah LiFePO4 batteries with Bluetooth (10.24kWh) — the storage that runs the house after sunset. Bluetooth lets you read state of charge, voltage and cell health from a phone instead of guessing.
  • 12 sets of mounting Z-brackets — one set per panel for roof or ground-frame attachment.
  • 2 x 50 foot solar extension cables — the run from the array back to the inverter's PV input.
  • 1 x 200A DC breaker — the disconnect and overcurrent protection between the battery bank and the inverter.
  • 2 x 25A PV breakers — string protection and a safe way to isolate the array for service.

Is this the right size for you?

Sungold does not publish a daily kilowatt-hour production figure for this kit, so we will not quote one. What we can tell you is the shape of the system: 5400W of array feeding 10.24kWh of storage through an 8000W inverter. That is a balanced ratio — the array can refill the bank in a normal sunny day, and the inverter has enough headroom to start motor loads that the battery bank can comfortably support.

This is the right size if you are powering a cabin, a shop, a guest house, an off-grid tiny home or a well-insulated small home where heating and cooking are propane or wood, and cooling is a mini-split rather than central air.

Size up if you run an electric range, an electric water heater, central air conditioning, a kiln, a welder used for more than short bursts, or an electric vehicle charger. Any one of those will pull the bank down faster than a 5400W array can refill it. Our 10kW and 20kW kits exist for exactly that situation.

Size down if this is a weekend property, a hunting camp or a shed you visit occasionally. You will be paying for storage that mostly sits idle, and a smaller inverter with a smaller bank will serve you better.

If you are unsure, the honest test is to look at a year of utility bills for the building you are replacing, or to add up the running watts of everything you intend to leave switched on. Sizing from actual consumption beats sizing from a kit name every time.

The AC side of this installation is work for a licensed electrician. Connecting a split-phase inverter to a distribution panel, bonding and grounding the system, and meeting local code are not do-it-yourself tasks, and in most jurisdictions the work must be permitted and inspected. Many owners handle the panel racking and the DC-side assembly themselves and bring in an electrician for the interconnection and final commissioning. Ordering and delivery

This kit ships freight on pallets. Twelve solar panels, four batteries and an inverter are not a parcel carrier shipment, and the carrier will call to arrange a delivery window. Delivery is kerbside: the driver brings the pallets to the end of your driveway or the edge of the property and no further. Plan for how you will move them, and for a second pair of hands.

Inspect the pallets before you sign. Walk around them, look for crushed corners, punctured shrink wrap, cracked panel glass and dented inverter or battery casings. If anything looks wrong, note it on the delivery paperwork before signing and photograph it. A signed clean receipt makes a freight damage claim very difficult to pursue afterwards. Contact us as soon as you see a problem and we will work the claim with you.

Common questions

Can I install this myself?

Partly. Racking the panels, setting the batteries and running DC cable are within reach of a competent person who reads the manuals. The AC side is not: tying a split-phase inverter into a distribution panel, grounding and bonding, and satisfying local code require a licensed electrician, and in most areas a permit and inspection.

What else do I need to buy?

The kit covers the array, storage, inverter, breakers, Z-brackets and the main cable runs. It does not include roof or ground mounting rails, conduit, a distribution panel or subpanel, a transfer arrangement, wire for the AC side, or the grounding electrode system. Your electrician will produce that list once they see the wiring diagram above.

Will it run my whole house?

It depends entirely on the house. It will comfortably run a small or well-insulated home where heating and cooking are not electric. It will not run a home with an electric range, electric water heating and central air conditioning — those loads outrun a 5400W array. Add up your actual consumption before deciding.

What happens in a power outage?

This is an off-grid system, not a grid-tied one. Anything wired to the inverter runs from battery and solar and does not notice a utility outage at all. If you also intend to charge from utility power or a generator when the sun is short, discuss that AC input arrangement with your electrician, since it changes how the panel is wired.

How do these batteries behave in cold weather?

LiFePO4 cells lose usable capacity as temperature drops, and charging a cold lithium battery can damage it. Sungold does not list a self-heating battery option for this kit, so plan to install the bank somewhere kept above freezing — a conditioned utility room, an insulated enclosure or a heated shop. The battery manual linked above gives the rated temperature range.
