Who it suits
This is the right size somewhere between roughly 400 and 1,250 cigars. Under a couple of hundred, a large desktop humidor does the same work without the footprint. Over 1,250, size up rather than run this one to its ceiling — a packed cabinet is awkward to load and slow to recover after the door is opened. Choose the Redford over the Lite only if the cabinetry matters to you; the storage and climate specifications are the same.
Climate control
Temperature adjusts between 41°F and 71°F, humidity between 56% and 78% RH. Those are the boundaries of the control range rather than settings to aim for. Most collectors target around 65 to 70°F and 65 to 70% RH, which sits in the middle here — you have room to run cooler and drier for long-term aging, or warmer and wetter for cigars you will smoke this year, without pushing the system to either extreme.
The difference between this and a passive humidor is temperature authority. A passive humidor tracks the room, which is fine in a conditioned house and genuinely risky in a room that reaches the high seventies, where tobacco beetle can hatch in stored cigars. This cabinet cools when the room is warm and heats when it is cold, so it corrects in both directions. The specification describes a built-in cooling and heating system without naming the technology, and we will not guess at compressor versus thermoelectric.

Day to day, the sliding shelves count for more than the last few hundred theoretical cigars: sliding one out gives access to the back row without unloading the front. The door is tempered glass on a heavy-duty seal. That seal is the single component that determines whether the climate system maintains conditions or fights a slow leak, so inspect it on arrival and check it closes evenly all round. White LED lighting illuminates every shelf; LED belongs in a humidor because it generates very little heat, meaning lit shelves do not become warm shelves.
Inside, the cabinet is cedar lined, with four sliding shelves and one removable tray with dividers. Cedar is the traditional lining because it holds moisture without warping, buffers the interior against swings each time the door is opened, plays a part in how cigars mature over years, and deters tobacco beetle. Setting it up
General best practice for a cedar-lined climate-controlled cabinet. The manufacturer's manual is the final authority.
- Season it before anything goes in. New cedar is dry and will pull moisture from the air, and from your cigars, until it equalises. Run the cabinet empty with the reservoir filled and let the interior stabilise over several days. A skipped seasoning is the usual explanation when a new cabinet seems unable to hold humidity.
- Distilled water only. Use distilled or reverse-osmosis water in the reservoir. Tap water leaves mineral scale in the humidification system and a residue in which mould can establish.
- Placement. Interior wall, out of direct sunlight, clear of radiators, heat vents and warm-running electronics. The cooling system has to exhaust heat somewhere, so leave clearance around the cabinet rather than fitting it tightly into a recess.
- Level footing. Out of level means out of square, and a glass door that does not seal evenly leaks conditioned air around the clock. Check with a level and adjust before the cabinet is loaded.
- Power. No voltage figure appears in the specification we hold, so read the rating plate on the unit and plan the outlet from that. A dedicated outlet is better than an extension lead.
- Load gradually. Let the readings settle first, then load over several days rather than in a single session, allowing humidity to recover between batches.
Delivery
The Redford ships crated by freight as an LTL shipment; it is well past parcel size. Kerbside delivery is standard for freight, which means the carrier brings it to the tail of the truck and the move into the room is yours to arrange. Have help booked for the day it lands.
Measure first. Doorways and turns against the 26 inch width and 26 inch depth, headroom against the 52.75 inch height. The extra depth over the Lite is the dimension most likely to catch you out in a narrow hallway. Inspect the crate for damage before you sign, and note anything you find on the delivery paperwork at that moment.

What do I get over the Redford Lite?
Cabinetry, not capacity. Both hold 1,250 cigars, share the same 41°F to 71°F and 56% to 78% ranges, the same four sliding shelves and removable tray, the same touchscreen, LED lighting and de-mist. This model adds dark cherry finish, embossed wood side panels and crown moulding, in a slightly larger 26 by 26 by 52.75 inch cabinet.
Is it different from the Redford Espresso?
Only in finish. The Espresso version shares the same dimensions, capacity, climate ranges, shelving, lighting and controls, in an espresso finish rather than dark cherry. Choose on which tone suits the room.
Can I store boxes in it?
Yes, and the sliding shelves make it workable. Expect the count to land well below the 1,250 loose rating, often close to half, once boxes are involved. Removing the divider tray gives you height for taller boxes.
How often does the reservoir need topping up?
The specification states no interval, and any single figure would mislead — it depends on your humidity setting, how dry the room is and how often the door is opened. Check weekly at first and let your own observations set the routine.
Will it work in a garage or unheated space?
It copes better than a passive humidor because it heats as well as cools, but adjustment stops at 71°F and a garage that hits the nineties in summer or drops below freezing in winter is outside what the system can correct. Conditioned interior space is the reliable answer.
Does it need plumbing or a drain?
No. Humidification runs from an internal reservoir filled by hand with distilled water. There is no supply connection and no drain line in the specification.
