The Remington is the furniture-grade version of Prestige's 2,000-cigar cabinet: dark cherry, embossed side panels, crown molding at the top, and a tempered glass front that lets the collection do the talking. It is built for a room where the cabinet is meant to be seen — a lounge floor, a members' room, a study where it stands beside real joinery — while the electronics behind the cedar hold temperature and humidity steady enough for long-term ageing rather than short-term keeping.

Who it suits

Buy this if the cabinet has to look finished in a room people sit in and your collection is heading past a thousand cigars. Retail floors and lounges are its natural home. If it will live in a stockroom where nobody sees it, you are paying for the panels and molding for nothing — the black oak Remington Lite has the same capacity and climate system in a plainer, slightly smaller cabinet. Climate control

Temperature is adjustable from 41°F to 71°F and humidity from 56% to 78% RH. Most collectors run near 65–70°F and 65–70% RH, mid-range on both scales. That headroom is the point: a cabinet asked to hold a setpoint at the edge of its capability runs constantly and wears accordingly, while one working in the middle of its range cycles gently.

Against a passive humidor, the difference is control of temperature as an independent variable. A passive box follows the room, and a room that warms in summer takes the cigars with it, beetle risk rising in step. This cabinet cools and heats, so it pulls the interior back down in August and holds it up in an under-heated room in February.

Capacity in the real world

Two thousand cigars is the loose-single count: cigars laid in rows with nothing wasted. It is an honest measurement of the cabinet's volume and a poor prediction of what you will actually fit.

Boxes are the reason. Every box brings its own walls, lid clearance and end gaps, and a slide-lid cabinet box is far bulkier than the cigars in it. A boxed collection lands well under the rated figure — plan for a meaningful reduction. Bundles and loose cabinet-selection sticks pack far closer to the number.

Layout gives you some control. Three angled shelves at the top display stock face-on, which suits a retail floor but trades away a little usable depth; the three flat shelves below take boxes properly. The removable divided tray is where most owners keep current rotation, so daily reaching never disturbs the ageing stock.

Build and finish

The exterior is dark cherry with embossed wood side panels and crown molding accents — detailing that separates this from the plainer cabinets in the line and lets it sit against traditional furniture without looking like equipment. The interior is cedar-lined. Spanish cedar buffers moisture without warping, adds the aroma cigars take on over months of storage, and repels tobacco beetles. It also arrives thirsty, which is what makes seasoning mandatory.

The door is tempered glass with a heavy-duty seal. The seal is the working part: if the cabinet starts running harder than it used to, check the seal and the levelling before suspecting the electronics. White LED lighting runs across all shelves, chosen because LED puts almost no heat into a compartment being actively cooled. Shelves are on slides, so a loaded level pulls out to be worked. The specification supplied for this model does not list a lock or a UV rating for the glass — verify with the manufacturer's documentation if either governs your decision.

Setting it up

This is general best practice for a cedar-lined electric cabinet of this class. The manufacturer's manual takes precedence and should be read before the unit is switched on.

• Season it. A new cedar interior is dry and will draw moisture out of the first cigars placed in it. Run the cabinet empty, humidification system filled, until the interior holds a steady reading unaided. Several days is normal. Only then load cigars.
• Distilled water, always. Distilled or reverse-osmosis water for seasoning and every refill. Tap water leaves mineral deposits that clog the humidification system and can introduce mould into a sealed, damp environment.
• Placement. Interior wall, out of direct sunlight, away from radiators, registers and fireplaces. Leave clearance rather than sealing the cabinet into a tight recess. Level it carefully — at 74.5" tall, small errors at the feet become a door that never quite meets its seal.
• Power. The specification supplied here does not state a voltage. Confirm the requirement on the rating plate and in the manual before positioning the cabinet relative to an outlet.
• Load gradually. Reach your setpoint before anything goes in, then load in stages. A cabinet asked to rehydrate a whole collection at once reads low for days while it catches up.

Delivery

The Remington ships crated on a pallet by LTL freight; its size rules out parcel carriage. Freight delivery is normally kerbside, so the carrier's responsibility typically ends at the driveway. Line up help and clear the path in advance.

Measure before delivery day, not on it. The cabinet is 26" wide, 26" deep and 74.5" tall, and the crate is larger again in every direction. The height in particular is worth checking against low doorways and stair landings. Inspect the crate before signing the delivery receipt, and note any damage on the paperwork at the time — a freight claim depends on it.

Common questions

How many boxes will it actually take?

Fewer than the 2,000-cigar rating suggests, because that figure counts loose singles. Box dimensions vary too much for a reliable conversion. The practical approach is to keep boxes on the three flat shelves, use the angled shelves for loose and display stock, and accept the trade-off.

What is the difference between this and the Remington Lite?

Cabinetry, not performance. Both hold 2,000 cigars with the same 41°F–71°F and 56%–78% RH ranges, six sliding shelves and a divided tray. This one is dark cherry with embossed side panels and crown molding and measures 26" x 26" x 74.5"; the Lite is black oak, plainer, and a slightly smaller footprint at 25" x 24" x 72".

And the Remington Espresso?

Same cabinet, same dimensions, same climate system and the same embossed panels and molding — the finish is espresso rather than dark cherry. Choose between them on how the wood tone sits with the room; there is nothing to weigh up on the specification side.

Does it need plumbing?

No. Humidification runs from an internal reservoir that you fill by hand. No supply line, no drain, no condensate connection. All the cabinet needs from the room is a suitable power outlet and clearance for the cooling system.

Can it live in a garage or an unheated basement?

A conditioned interior room is the right answer. A garage that swings from freezing to hot forces the system to work continuously, and a damp basement keeps the glass fogging as de-mist fights the room.
