Espresso is the finish to choose when dark cherry reads too red against a modern room. Mechanically the Remington Espresso is the same 2,000-cigar electric cabinet as the rest of the Remington range — cedar-lined, actively cooled and heated, six sliding shelves behind tempered glass — but the deep brown cabinetry, embossed side panels and crown molding suit contemporary lounges and offices where warm-toned wood would sit awkwardly. It is a decision about the room, not about the storage.

Who it suits

It fits collectors and operators who want the detailed cabinetry of the standard Remington in a darker, cooler tone: a lounge with dark millwork, a shop with a modern fit-out, a home office finished in espresso or walnut. If the room never sees a customer, the plainer black oak Remington Lite performs identically for less presence. If you need to hold two different humidity targets at once, this is not the cabinet — a dual-zone Reagan is.

Climate control

Everything in this cabinet exists to hold two numbers steady. Temperature adjusts across 41°F–71°F and humidity across 56%–78% RH. The band most collectors aim for, around 65–70°F and 65–70% RH, falls comfortably inside both, which means the system spends its life cycling in the middle of its range rather than pinned at an extreme.

That is the practical case against a passive humidor at this collection size. A passive box has no temperature authority: it inherits the room, and as the room warms, humidity and tobacco beetle risk climb with it. An electric cabinet treats temperature and humidity as two separate jobs, year-round.

Capacity in the real world

The 2,000-cigar rating describes loose single cigars filling the interior volume efficiently. Real collections are messier and the working figure is always lower.

How much lower depends almost entirely on boxes. Boxed cigars carry their packaging into the cabinet — walls, lid clearance, end gaps — and heavy cabinet-style boxes waste more space than they hold. Expect a boxed collection to fall well short of the rating. Bundles and loose stock come closer, and a mixed collection lands somewhere between the two.

Use the layout deliberately. Three angled shelves at the top present cigars face-on for display and give up a little depth in exchange; three flat shelves beneath handle boxes and bulk. The removable divided tray suits singles in current rotation, keeping day-to-day reaching away from the stock you are ageing.

Build and finish

The cabinet is finished in espresso, with embossed wood side panels and crown molding accents that carry through from the standard Remington. The interior is lined in cedar. Spanish cedar is the traditional humidor lining because it absorbs and releases moisture without warping, contributes the aroma cigars pick up over long storage, and discourages tobacco beetles. Its thirst when new is precisely why a fresh cabinet has to be seasoned before it earns its keep.

The door is tempered glass with a heavy-duty seal — the seal being the part actually responsible for holding your climate. White LED lighting illuminates all shelves; LED is used rather than anything hotter because heat inside a cooled compartment is a load the system has to fight. Shelves ride on slides. The specification supplied for this model does not list a lock or a UV rating for the glass; check the manufacturer's documentation if either matters where the cabinet will stand.

Setting it up

The steps below are general best practice for a cedar-lined electric cabinet. Where the manufacturer's manual differs, follow the manual.

• Season before you load. New cedar is dry and will take moisture from your cigars rather than give it. Run the cabinet empty with the humidification system filled until the interior holds a stable reading on its own — several days of settling, not an afternoon.
• Distilled water only. Distilled or reverse-osmosis water in the reservoir, at seasoning and every refill afterwards. Tap water carries minerals that scale the system and can seed mould inside a warm, damp cabinet.
• Placement. Interior wall, no direct sunlight, well clear of radiators and heating vents. Give the cooling system room to exhaust instead of recirculating its own warm air. At 74.5" tall, an out-of-level carcass means a door that never quite closes against the seal.
• Power. No voltage is given in the specification supplied for this model. Read the rating plate and the manual before deciding which outlet it lives on.
• Load in batches. Bring the cabinet to target and let it hold before cigars go in, then add gradually. Loading everything at once drags humidity down and the system spends days recovering.

Delivery

Shipping is by LTL freight, crated on a pallet, because the cabinet is too large for parcel handling. Freight delivery is normally kerbside: the carrier brings it to the property line and the rest is yours to arrange. Have two people and a cleared route ready.

Measure the route in advance against 26" wide, 26" deep and 74.5" tall, and remember the crate is bigger than the cabinet on every axis. Doorway widths, hallway turns and stairwell headroom are the usual obstacles. Inspect the crate before signing and write any damage on the carrier's delivery paperwork at the time — an unnoted signature makes a later claim much harder.

Common questions

Is the espresso version any different mechanically from the dark cherry Remington?

No. Same 2,000-cigar capacity, same 26" x 26" x 74.5" cabinet, same 41°F–71°F and 56%–78% RH ranges, same six shelves and divided tray, same embossed panels and crown molding. The finish is the only difference, so choose on how the tone sits in your room.

Will the finish fade in a bright room?

Any wood finish can shift under sustained direct sunlight, and sunlight is bad for the cabinet's thermal load as well. The placement advice — an interior wall, out of direct sun — protects the finish and the climate system at the same time. No UV rating for the glass is listed in the specification supplied for this model.

How often does the reservoir need topping up?

That is set by your room and your habits, not by the cabinet. Dry winter air, a lower humidity setting, and a door opened many times a day all shorten the interval. Check weekly at first until you know the pattern, and keep distilled water on hand so refilling never gets deferred.

Can I run it at a lower humidity for drier smoking?

Within the 56%–78% RH range, yes — a setpoint in the low sixties is common for people who find 70% too wet. Move in small steps and let the cabinet settle for a few days between changes. Large, sudden swings are what crack wrappers.

What if I need two different humidity settings?

You cannot get them here. Air moves freely inside this cabinet, so shelves do not create microclimates and the whole interior sits at one setpoint.
