The Remington Lite is a full-height electric humidor cabinet for a collection that has outgrown desktop boxes and converted coolers. Who it suits

This is the right size if your collection is past a thousand cigars and still growing, or if you need display capacity on a retail floor. Holding a few hundred sticks, it is more cabinet than you need, and a shorter unit in the same Prestige family takes less floor space. Climate control

Most collectors settle around 65–70°F and 65–70% RH. That window sits comfortably inside this cabinet's adjustable range of 41°F–71°F and 56%–78% RH, so the system is not running at either extreme to reach your target — which is what you want from a unit powered continuously for years.

The practical difference from a passive humidor is temperature. A passive box tracks the room: as it warms, humidity climbs with it and tobacco beetle risk climbs too. An actively cooled and heated cabinet defends both variables independently, which is the whole reason to spend at this level.

Capacity in the real world

Store cigars in their boxes and the figure drops substantially. Boxes waste lid clearance and the gaps at the ends of rows, and a slide-lid cabinet box takes up far more room than the sticks inside it. Plan on well under the rated number for a boxed collection; bundles and cabinet-selection sticks pack much closer to it.

The layout helps. Six sliding shelves let you dedicate levels to different formats, and the removable divided tray is useful for singles you want to reach without disturbing anything else. The top three shelves are angled for display, which looks right on a retail floor but costs a little usable depth compared with the three flat shelves below.

Build and finish

The interior is cedar-lined. Spanish cedar is the traditional lining for a reason: it holds moisture without warping, releases the aroma cigars pick up over months of storage, and is unattractive to the beetles that damage tobacco. It arrives dry, which is why a new cabinet needs seasoning.

The door is heavy-duty tempered glass, and the seal around it is what actually holds your climate. White LED lighting runs across all shelves; LED is the right choice inside a humidor because it adds almost no heat to a compartment the cooling system is trying to hold steady. Shelves run on slides, so a loaded level pulls out to be worked through rather than reached into.

The following is general best practice for a cedar-lined electric cabinet of this type. The manufacturer's manual is the final word, and it should be read before the cabinet is powered up.

• Season it first. New cedar is dry and will pull moisture out of anything you put in front of it. Run the cabinet empty, with the humidification system filled, until the interior holds a steady reading on its own. Expect several days, not several hours.
• Distilled water only. Distilled or reverse-osmosis water in the reservoir, at seasoning and at every refill after. Tap water carries minerals that scale up the system and can introduce mould. This is the most common way owners damage an otherwise reliable unit.
• Placement. An interior wall, out of direct sunlight, away from radiators, vents and fireplaces. Leave clearance for the cooling system to exhaust rather than boxing the cabinet into an alcove. At 72" tall it needs level footing, otherwise the door will not pull square against its seal.
• Power. The specification supplied for this model does not state a voltage. Confirm the electrical requirement on the rating plate and in the manual before you commit to an outlet location.
• Load gradually. Let the cabinet stabilise at your target before loading, then fill it in stages. A large load of dry cigars drags the humidity down and the system will chase it for days.

Delivery

A cabinet this size ships freight, on a pallet, by LTL carrier. Standard freight delivery is kerbside, which means the carrier brings it to the end of your driveway and no further. Arrange help and a route into the room before the truck arrives.

Measure first. The cabinet is 25" wide, 24" deep and 72" tall, and crated it is larger again in every dimension. Check doorways, hallway turns and stairwell headroom. Inspect the crate for damage before signing, and note anything you find on the delivery paperwork at the time — that record is what a freight claim rests on.

Common questions

Can I store cigars in their boxes?

Yes, and many owners do for provenance and future value. Just expect the usable count to fall well short of 2,000, because boxes waste space that loose cigars fill. Mixing is common: boxes on the flat shelves, loose singles and open stock on the angled shelves and the divided tray.

Does it need plumbing or a drain?

No. The humidification system runs from an internal reservoir you fill by hand, so the cabinet needs a power outlet and nothing else. That is what makes placement flexible compared with a walk-in humidor room.

How often will I be refilling the reservoir?

It depends on your room, not on the cabinet. Dry winter air, a low humidity target or frequent door opening all shorten the interval. Check weekly at first, learn your pattern, then settle into a routine. Keep distilled water on hand so a top-up is never postponed.

What is the difference between this and the standard Remington?

Capacity and climate performance are the same on both: 2,000 cigars, the same adjustable temperature and humidity ranges, six shelves and a tray. The difference is cabinetry. The standard Remington is dark cherry with embossed side panels and crown molding, and it is a slightly larger box overall. The Lite is black oak with plainer detailing.

Will it work in a garage or an unheated space?

Be careful here. The cabinet regulates its own interior, but it cannot ignore the room it stands in.
