What Will It Run?
Renogy's published estimate is 2,000 to 2,500Wh per day at 5 to 6 peak sun hours. Our more conservative planning figure: 400W x 4 h x 0.75 = roughly 1,200Wh per day for northern or winter conditions. On the storage side, plan around 50% depth of discharge for AGM longevity: about 1,200Wh usable per full cycle.

Steady loads: LED lights (75Wh) + 12V fridge (about 1,100Wh/day) fits the sunny-day harvest but will draw the bank down across cloudy days, so a fridge is realistic in good sun regions, marginal in gray winters.

Short heavy loads: the 2000W inverter runs a 900W microwave for 10 minutes (about 150Wh) or a 1,200W coffee maker for 6 minutes (about 120Wh) without strain; avoid running two large appliances at once.

Not for this kit: air conditioning, electric heat, and well pumps with high starting surges exceed sensible sizing at 400W of solar.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I add panels later?
A little. The Rover Li 40A accepts up to 520W at 12V per Renogy, so there is room for one more 100W panel above the included 400W. Beyond that, you would upgrade the controller or move to a 24V design.
AGM or lithium, honestly?
AGM wins on upfront cost and cold storage tolerance; lithium wins on usable capacity (80%+ vs about 50% depth of discharge), cycle life, and weight (the lithium version's batteries are 26.9 lb vs 63.9 lb each, per Renogy). Weekend and backup use favors AGM economics; daily full-time cycling favors lithium.
Can I upgrade to lithium batteries later?
Yes. The Rover controller has a lithium profile, so you can swap the bank down the road, for example to a single Core 12V 300Ah self-heating LiFePO4, and keep the rest of the kit. Do not mix AGM and lithium in one bank.
Roof or ground mount?
Z-brackets are included for flat mounting on an RV, shed, or cabin roof. For ground mounting, add a tilt rack; a steeper winter angle helps a 400W array noticeably.
Can this combine with my RV's alternator?
Yes, by adding a separate DC-DC charger between the starter battery and this bank. The included Rover controller handles the solar side only.
Do I need any electrical experience to install it?
The kit is designed for DIY: pre-terminated cables, included fusing, and Renogy's manuals. Comfort with basic DC wiring and torqueing lugs is enough for most installs; call us if you get stuck mid-install and we will talk you through it.
