The SGR-20K30E is a large off-grid system for a property that has to carry everything itself. Two 10000W 48V split-phase inverters supply 120V and 240V from a 30.72kWh LiFePO4 bank, refilled by a 14.4kW array of bifacial N-type panels. That is enough to run a large family home with electric appliances, a working farm or a rural business: well pumps, refrigeration, laundry, multiple heat pumps, shop tools and a full kitchen, with reserve for cloudy weather. It is the size you choose when a smaller kit has already been ruled out.

What you're getting

  • 2 x 10000W 48Vdc 120/240Vac split-phase inverters — the core of the system, 20kW combined. Each is a three-in-one unit combining inverter, AC charger and solar charge controller, so there is no separate controller to buy or wire.
  • 32 x 450W bifacial N-type monocrystalline solar panels (14.4kW array) — the generation side. Bifacial N-type modules collect light on the rear face as well as the front, which is worth real output on a ground mount or a light-coloured roof.
  • 6 x SG48100P 100Ah 51.2V LiFePO4 batteries (30.72kWh) — rack-format storage that carries the property overnight and through poor weather.
  • 1 x enclosed battery cabinet — houses the six batteries safely and tidily, which matters for inspection as well as for the look of the install.
  • 32 sets of mounting Z-brackets — one set per panel for roof or ground-frame attachment.
  • 4 sets of 50 foot solar extension cables — the runs from the array back to the inverters' PV inputs.
  • 2 x 200A DC breakers — disconnect and overcurrent protection between the battery bank and each inverter.
  • 4 x 25A PV breakers — string protection and a safe means of isolating sections of the array for service.
  • 4 sets of 2/0 AWG cable — the heavy battery and inverter connections, sized for the current two 10kW inverters draw.

Is this the right size for you?

Sungold publishes an estimate of up to 56kWh per day from this system with only four hours of usable sunlight. Read that as a ceiling for a good day at a good site, not a year-round average. Latitude, roof pitch, orientation, shading, snow and season all move the real number, and a December figure in a northern climate will be a long way below a June one.

This is the right size if you are taking a large all-electric home fully off-grid, running a farm with pumps and shop equipment, powering a rural business, or supporting a property with several buildings on one service. It also suits anyone who needs headroom for an electric vehicle charger or electric water heating.

Size down if your loads are a normal family home where heating and cooking are propane or wood. A 10kW kit with 25.6kWh of storage will do that job, and you will not have paid for array and storage that sit idle. Our 8kW kit covers cabins, workshops and guest houses.

Size up, or plan to, if you intend to add substantial load later — a second dwelling, a machine shop, more EV charging. The inverters accept up to 6 units in parallel, so the system can grow, but battery capacity and array area have to grow with it. Talk to us before you buy if expansion is already on the horizon; it is cheaper to plan the cabinet, the array field and the panel layout once.

Also worth knowing: storage, not array size, is what carries you through a long overcast stretch. If your winters bring three and four day grey spells, weigh whether 30.72kWh is enough reserve, or whether the larger battery configuration below suits you better.

The AC side of this installation is work for a licensed electrician. Two paralleled 10kW split-phase inverters feeding a distribution panel, with the grounding, bonding and code compliance that entails, is not a do-it-yourself job at any skill level, and in practically every jurisdiction it must be permitted and inspected. Many owners still handle the array racking and DC-side assembly themselves and bring the electrician in for interconnection and commissioning. Send these PDFs to your electrician before ordering. A system this size is worth reviewing on paper first — problems are far cheaper to find now than after the freight arrives.

Ordering and delivery

This kit ships freight on pallets, and it is a substantial shipment: thirty-two panels, six rack batteries, a cabinet and two inverters. The freight company will call to arrange a delivery window. Delivery is kerbside — the driver brings the pallets to the end of the driveway or the edge of the property and no further. Work out in advance how you will move and store them, and have equipment and help ready on the day.

Inspect every pallet before you sign. Look for crushed corners, torn shrink wrap, cracked or chipped panel glass, and dented battery, cabinet or inverter casings. Write any damage on the delivery paperwork before signing and photograph it while the driver is still on site. A clean signed receipt makes a freight damage claim very difficult to pursue afterwards. Common questions

Can I install this myself?

The array racking, the battery cabinet assembly and the DC cable runs are within reach of a competent person working from the manuals. The AC side is not. Two paralleled 10kW split-phase inverters tying into a distribution panel, with grounding and bonding to code, requires a licensed electrician and, in almost every jurisdiction, a permit and inspection.

What else do I need to buy?

The kit supplies the array, storage, cabinet, inverters, breakers, Z-brackets and main cable runs. It does not include mounting rails or the ground-mount structure for thirty-two panels, conduit, a distribution panel or subpanel, AC-side wire, or the grounding electrode system. Your electrician will produce that list from the wiring diagram above.

Will it run my whole house?

For most homes, yes, including all-electric ones. Two 10kW inverters, a 14.4kW array and 30.72kWh of storage will carry a large household with an electric range, heat pumps and laundry. The limits are simultaneous heavy load and long overcast runs, so work from a year of actual utility bills rather than a kit name.

What happens in a power outage?

This is an off-grid system, not a grid-tied one. Circuits fed by the inverters draw from battery and solar and take no notice of a utility outage. Each inverter also contains an AC charger, so a generator or utility feed can be used to top up the bank during a long grey stretch — discuss that input arrangement with your electrician early.

How do these batteries behave in cold weather?

LiFePO4 loses usable capacity as temperature falls, and charging a cold cell will damage it. The SG48100P batteries supplied here belong in a space kept above freezing. If your site cannot provide that, the SGR-20K30T uses SGH48100T self-heating batteries at the same 30.72kWh, and the SGR-20K32P uses outdoor-rated PowerMax units.
